The van, history etc

The VW California was launched in 2003: the first campervan designed and built in-house by Volkswagen, unlike other vans which are converted into campers. The van is based on the Classic Transporter but updated with modern features and technology such as cruise control and ABS brakes. In 2005, the California Beach arrived. In 2007 a 'pop-top' bed was added to the Beach. In 2010, a more refined version was launched with updated styling and a more powerful engine. Our T6 VW California Ocean Campers showcase the latest VW model.

Geeky Spec

This is the luxury version of our humble VW Campervan boasting all the latest innovation to keep you comfy and cosy. 2L diesel engines with an average of 44 MPG, heated front seats, blue-tooth connectivity, DAB digital radio, ambient lighting, a compact kitchenette and diesel heating (which you can leave on overnight). It’s wider and longer than its Classic Campervan cousin but still small enough to tackle narrow country lanes with ease.

Insides & Facilities

Captain's chairs in the front cab swivel to reveal roomier living space, with the fold-out table creating an eating area for four. There are plenty of storage cupboards to keep your home-on-wheels tidy and clever use of stow-away chairs and tables help to maximise on space.  The 42 litre fridge, two burner hob and sink make cooking in the van an attractive alternative to eating out.

Layout for sleeping

The California offers two double beds. The first of these is in the main part of the van: the rear seats fold flat, leaving useful storage space underneath which is accessible from the boot. The second bed is slightly wider and has a wooden slatted base. This is located in the elevating roof section. Both sleeping areas feature spot-lights for bedtime reading.

Where can I go in my van?

Our California Campers are welcome to wander anywhere they choose in the UK. There is no mileage restriction in place. With our European Travel option selected, you can venture throughout Europe. The comfortable drive and impressive MPG make serious road-trips a real possibility. Explore Scotland. Visit the South of France. Take the family to Disneyland Paris. Or simply stay local and explore the glorious coast and countryside of the west country.

Family Friendly?

The California is ideal for a family of four. Those with small children will find the isofix points useful for car seats. Those with teenagers will find the generous size fridge offers essential storage for endless snacks and drinks. And the possibility of cooking meals in the van represents a significant saving on the cost of eating out during the holiday. The efficient on-board heating extends the camping season, ideal for families who are keen to dodge the peak holiday crowds.
