The Timewarp

Our Journey with Ordell : 29.06.12 – 13.07.12 We made our dream come true and hired a camper van called Ordell for two weeks this year. Our trip took us from Hamburg (Germany) over Dunkerque (France) to Dover to Okehampton.

By the change of our car with Ordell we changed way of travelling. There has been already said enough about the problems with the gear box but afterwards we must say that if you once managed the “timewarp” into the 70s and keep calm and relaxed, everything works out just fine. In the beginning you try to flow with the normal traffic but that is just not possible with such an old car.

It took us nearly one week to calm down and till than it was just tariffic travelling. The “Learner”-Sign we bought at Tesco helped us to have a little more place in the behind (some young ones came up real close, which makes you more nervous at hilly ways) 😉

So we went to Ilfracombe, Combe Martin, Tintagel, Padstow, Marazzion, Porthcurno, St. Ives, Mevagissey, Fowey, Widecombe-in-the-moor and Chagford. Our highlights were: -walking the costal path along the hangmans in Ilfracombe/Combe Martin -visiting Tintagle’s castle -St. Michaels Mount (by foot on the island, back by boot) – Shakespeare’s play “the twelfth night” in the Minack theatre -Lost Gardens of Haligan -driving experience in the Dartmoor (small ways and lots of animals)

Due to the rainy weather in the evenings we enjoyed teriffic “pub grub” nearly everywhere we stayed. One of the best camping sites in our oppinion was the one in Ilfracombe, which we want to recommend here. Finally we are very very sure that Cornwall and Devon hasn’t seen us for the last time as there is so much to do and see and besides it’s so b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l 🙂 Many Greets from Hamburg!
