We hired Shiny Norman for 3 days at half term and were very reluctant to return him at the end. Collecting him and getting used to driving him was quite an experience; I realised just how much technology had moved on, but, as Pete had confirmed, I soon settled into to it. Not everything went smoothly, we had a flat battery on the final morning, but with advice from Pete on the mobile, and swift assistance from the AA, we were soon back on the road. On the first day we headed up to Halse Farm Campsite on the south-east of Exmoor. It is a beautiful, wild site with stunning views and has a David Bellamy conservation award. We were lucky to be allocated the hard standing disabled pitch, right next to the shower block. The next day we did a Landrover Safari to explore Exmoor and see the wildlife with Barle Valley Safaris – highly recommended. The last two nights, (including Halloween, complete with a VW pumpkin) were spent at Brightlycott Barton Campsite near Barnstaple. It is a small friendly site and we had amazing panoramic views. Although the weather was inclement and unbelievably cold, we really enjoyed our time together as a family. One stormy night we even had three squashed onto Norman\’s bed in sleeping bags to keep warm! My teenager sons had great fun, didn\’t miss their PCs and mucked in with the cooking and washing up etc. Thank you to all at O\’Connors Campers. WE MISS YOU SHINY NORMAN! X
