DAY1

DISTANCE FROM O’CONNORS CAMPERS:

DESTINATION - ST AUSTELL

Collect your van and set off for the South Coast of Cornwall, towards St Austell.

STAY AT: TREVEAGUE FARM

A very friendly site with basic facilities but it’s all about the location: beautiful views of the sea and within walking distance of three beaches. The owners have clearly put some thought into summer entertainment, with a story teller visiting during peak season and a wonderful organic alfresco café. I can’t wait to visit, myself! Open April to September.

Close to the Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan if you wanted to break up the beach theme…

DAY2

DISTANCE FROM ST AUSTELL:

34 MILES / 45 MINUTES

DESTINATION - ST IVES

The campsite we recommend at St Ives is one of my absolute favourites…

STAY AT: CHURCHTOWN FARM CAMPSITE

This is a quiet, family run campsite, with spacious pitches, overlooking St Ives Bay. “Beautiful brand new facilities set in a stunning location amongst the sand dunes at Gwithian Towans. Will definitely be heading there again. It was our favourite site. Whilst there, we left our van at the park and ride and caught the little train to St Ives. Definitely the best way to arrive there, as parking is virtually impossible.” Open March to October.

Unmissable sunset from the dunes behind this campsite! Even the teenagers were amazed. This is the perfect beach-side site, so stock up with food to cook in the van and make the most of this fabulous location. You might want to book in for more than one night, as you will find it very hard to leave.

DAY3

DISTANCE FROM ST IVES:

31 MILES / 45 MINUTES

DESTINATION - NEWQUAY

If you can bear to leave Churchtown Farm, travel up the North Coast to Newquay.

STAY AT: PORTH BEACH HOLIDAY PARK

This location has inspired people to move down here! Just set across the road from the life guard (Baywatch springs to mind!) patrolled beach where you can surf, swim, body-board or simply relax and read the papers. Pub and café nearby.  Open mid-March to end October.

This site is all about the beach, so ideal if you are here to do a spot of surfing. Book some lessons or hire some surf kit from The Westcountry Surf School.

You are spoilt for choice if you fancy visiting one of the great coastal restaurants: Fifteen or The Beach Hut at Watergate Bay or The Stable on Fistral Beach are all within easy reach.

DAY4

DISTANCE FROM NEWQUAY:

44 MILES / 1 HOUR 15 MINUTES

DESTINATION - BUDE

At Bude, you’ll discover Summerleaze Beach in the middle of town. Plenty of space for parking, this is a great family-friendly, sandy beach. The sea pool is beautiful. A little way out of town you’ll find Widemouth Bay. More scenic and rugged, this is a favourite haunt for surfers. Ideal for spectating or joining in! Try The Big Blue Surf School for surf lessons and equipment hire.

STAY AT: BUDE MEADOWS TOURING PARK

Large family campsite with heated out-door pool. Close to Widemouth Bay. No minimum stay (useful for last-minute summer bookings!) Open all year.

It’s just a 50 minute drive back to O’Connors Campers workshop on your final morning. Don’t want to go home yet? Visit Exeter Quay (25 miles away) and hire bikes or canoes from Saddles and Paddles. Enjoy lunch at The Turf Lock or Double Locks along the canal path. If you are holidaying in the cooler months (Dec – March) you might like to enjoy a scenic walk on Dartmoor instead. Belstone is 10 minutes drive from O’Connors Campers, with breath-taking scenery & a pub for lunch.
