DAY1

DISTANCE FROM O’CONNORS CAMPERS:

70 MILES / 1 HOUR 30 MINUTES

DESTINATION - ROSELAND PENINSULA

Head west on the A30 from Okehampton, then stop at Roadford Lake (on A30 between Okehampton and Launceston PL16 0RL) for a cuppa to congratulate yourself on your retro driving skills. Then, on to the Roseland…

STAY AT: Treloan Coastal Holidays

This campsite is set within a small 1930’s traditional working ‘nature’s way’ farm (chemicals have never been used in the farm’s history). Overlooking a truly spectacular panorama of coastline, the farm is situated on the South Coast Riviera of Cornwall a short stroll from the charming fishing village of Portscatho. If that is not enough to tempt you, the farm is also on the stunning South West Coastal Footpath with access to three small sheltered coves, perfect for paddling and rock pooling. Open all year, there are lambs to bottle feed in the Spring and chickens and guinea pigs galore! There are several pubs within walking distance including the Portscatho Harbour Club (50p a day membership) with it’s unrivalled sea views from the balcony.

While in the area, a great spot for lunch is the Hidden Hut, just above Porthcurnick Beach. Get there before the crowds – lunch starts at 12 noon. The best means of visiting is to park at ‘Porthcurnick Beach Car Park’ at Portscatho and walk the short distance along the panoramic coastal path. The Hidden Hut is a gorgeous beach café with a difference: great home cooking plus a selection of yummy snacks and pasties, cakes & ice creams. The lovely sandy beach would be an ideal spot for a spot of rock-pooling or an afternoon snooze. Then take the King Harry Ferry at Philleigh (in the van) which is around £6 and continue your journey towards Penzance.

Trethem Mill

As an alternative, this award-winning site close-by is a good option if you are hoping for more on-site facilities. Trethem is a luxury camping option; this site won GOLD “Caravan Park of the Year” at the Cornwall Tourism Awards 2015. As you might expect this site has outstanding facilities & offers a warm welcome. Great campsite to visit with your dog as there are lots of National Trust beaches in the area, which allow dogs all year round. Open Easter to early October
